Questions you should ask a Wedding Photographer

Planning the wedding is quite exciting, so you must be prepared when it comes to finding your wedding photographer. Wedding days are the most-photographed day of a Bride’s life. Start planning early and shop around in order to find the photographer you will be comfortable with to capture all the special wedding moments. There are lots of questions you should ask a photographer before signing the contract. Here are my answers to the most frequently asked questions that will help light the way.

Q:  Do you offer black and white?

This my most frequently asked question. Yes, black and white can add a dramatic look to your album.  I do shoot all the photos in a color format and any of them can be printed in black and white.

Engagement Photo
Q:  Where are the engagement photos taken and what do we get?

Engagement photos are taken anytime before the wedding and I can travel to your favorite spot, park, winery, lake, you get the idea.  I do leave it up to you to call and schedule an appointment.  After the sitting you will choose your favorite and I will provide a framed 8x10 to display at your wedding.

Q:  What is your time limit?

None.  I only book one wedding a day and never schedule any other clients that day. I will get to your wedding when you need me there.  I stay until the last event you have scheduled.

Q:  How many pictures do you take at my wedding?

As many as it takes. I do try to stay around 300 photos.  I will work closely with you before the wedding to make sure I know exactly what you want, and when you want to do it. Communication is the key to getting the images you’ll love.

Q: Do you take “traditional“  and “journalistic” photos at my wedding?

I don’t think you can really capture the true feel of any wedding without doing both.  There is no better time to get those great traditional family pictures when every one is together and looking their best. But I also think it’s the fun moments in between that also capture the tone for the day.

Q: Do you have a fee to travel?

I charge a flat $150 fee to travel outside of 100 miles from Valley Springs, CA 95252.  If you want to know if your location falls within the 100 miles just call I will be happy to do the mileage for you.

Q: Do you make custom packages?

Yes, I am always willing to go the extra mile to give a bride just what she wants.  I always like to have a consultation with each couple to see exactly what they are looking for in a photographer.  I also offer different styles of albums and print sizes to choose from.

Q: How long do I need to save between my ceremony and reception for pictures?

I feel your pictures are a very important part of your day. The time depends on how many photos need to be taken and the number of people in them.  You should plan at least 60 minutes after the ceremony for photos.  We encourage pre-shooting that will help with time if you have a large wedding party or family.

Q: How long after my wedding to I get to see my proofs?

Your website will be active 7-10 days of the wedding.  After you have made your selection it take 6-8 weeks to get your finished albums.

Q:  Who from Darling Photography comes to my wedding?

I personally photography all weddings, but I never work alone.  I have worked with my dad for the last 5 years and we make a great team.  I also have another assistants, Kelly and Jayleyene.  They both are great assistants and I will have at least one with me at all times.

Q: What will you wear to my wedding?

I thought this was a strange question when I heard it.  I have since been to many weddings and I think you should ask all your venders about their attire.  After all these are all people that you are inviting to your wedding.  Our goal is to be appropriate for the occasion, so if you have a dress code please share it with me.

Q: What type of equipment do you carry?

I only take what I need.  I like to be very mobile and therefore travel very light.  I carry only my single camera, flash, filters.  My assistants will always have my back-up everything as well as my bridal emergency kit.  I have learned over the years how valuable a pair of scissors and some Bobbie pins are at a wedding.
